What sales professionals in India should know before going online
There is no licence for sales roles in general, but several sectors carry their own rules. Pharma field staff should keep product claims off personal pages, since the company is bound by the Uniform Code for Pharmaceutical Marketing Practices. Anyone selling insurance or mutual funds needs the relevant IRDAI or AMFI registration, which belongs on their card. Sales hiring in India runs through Naukri, LinkedIn and very often through former managers, and hiring heads check whether your numbers came in a strong or weak market. Territory knowledge is prized: towns covered, distributor networks and local languages. Being able to sell in Hindi plus a regional language such as Telugu or Bengali is a genuine differentiator for field roles, so state it.
Common website mistakes sales professionals make
- Publishing absolute revenue or margin figures from your employer. Use percentages, growth rates and rankings, which prove performance without breaching confidentiality.
- Claiming “top performer” with no basis. Name the comparison: rank out of how many executives, in which zone, over which period.
- Ignoring the bad year. A short note on how you handled a slump, a product recall or a lost distributor shows maturity hiring managers respect.
- One generic page for every job hunt. Put the industry and channel you want next at the top, so an FMCG or SaaS sales head sees relevance in seconds.
- Using your company’s logo, product images and price lists. Keep the site about you; product material belongs on the employer’s channels.
