What stays the same everywhere

Every market rewards a letter written for one job: name the role, show two or three results that match what the employer asked for, explain anything the resume cannot (a move, a gap, a career change), and close politely in under a page. The free cover letter generator gives you a first draft to adapt to the local format.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Not always. Many online applications mark it as optional, but a short letter written for the specific job still helps, especially when you are changing careers, relocating or applying from abroad. In the UK and Australia, public-sector roles often ask for a supporting statement or selection criteria response instead.

Use the hiring manager’s name when you can find it, in the local style — for example “Dear Ms Patel” in the UK and Australia, or “Dear Ms. Patel” in the US and Canada. When there is no name, “Dear Hiring Manager” is accepted almost everywhere. The country pages list the local greeting and sign-off.

Follow the job post. Portals usually have an upload field or a text box; for email applications, a short version in the email body with the resume attached is common in India and the Gulf, while a PDF attachment is more usual elsewhere. Keep one page either way.
