What mechanical engineers in India should know before going online
Most mechanical roles in India need no personal licence, but some do: operating boilers requires certification under the boilers law, and energy auditors and managers are certified through the national energy efficiency body. List these clearly if you hold them. PSU recruitment usually runs through GATE scores and formal applications, so your site supports interviews rather than replacing the process. Private manufacturers, automotive suppliers and design service firms hire through campus drives, referrals, Naukri and LinkedIn, and often ask for a portfolio for design roles. Respect employer confidentiality: many plants restrict photography, so describe work in words or recreate designs independently. Industrial clusters such as Pune, Chennai, Gurugram, Ahmedabad and Hosur each have their own supplier networks, and mentioning where you can relocate helps recruiters.
Common website mistakes mechanical engineers make
- Showing CAD renders with no problem statement; explain what the part does, the requirement it met and how the design was checked.
- Posting photos taken inside a plant or employer drawings without permission; describe the work or recreate a similar model independently.
- Listing every software you opened once; name the two or three tools you use confidently and show one piece of work in each.
- Leaving out numbers from improvement projects; give measured results such as downtime reduced or scrap lowered, or say how it was assessed.
- Freshers listing only coursework; add competitions, internships, workshops and personal builds with your specific contribution clearly stated.
