Free Split PDF

Extract selected pages from a PDF or split it into separate files by page or by chunks — free, private and done right in your browser. Page ranges are written with commas and hyphens, such as 1-3, 5, 8-10, with the smaller page number first in each range.

Up to 50 MB. Your file never leaves this device.

What do you want to do?

Splitting happens in your browser. No file is uploaded or stored.

How to use Split PDF: 1. Load the PDF to split, 2. Pick a split method, 3. Enter pages or size, 4. Split and download.

When splitting a PDF helps

Scanned document bundles are often one long PDF, but job portals and HR onboarding forms ask for each document separately — the Class 10 mark sheet in one box, the degree certificate in another, the relieving letter somewhere else. Splitting lets you upload exactly what each field asks for, and keeps file sizes small.

Three ways to split

  1. Extract pages: type ranges like 1-2, 6 to pull just those pages into one new PDF — handy for sending only the first page of an offer letter or the pages of a Form 16 an employer asks for.
  2. Every page: each page becomes its own PDF, packed in a ZIP. Useful when a scanner has combined several certificates into one file.
  3. Chunks of N pages: for two-sided documents such as an ID card (2 pages each) or long reports you want in smaller parts.

Check the page count shown after you pick the file, and open the result before you upload it anywhere.

Worked example

Pulling only the pages a form asks for

What goes in

File: a 14-page combined scan of all academic documents Form asks for: degree certificate and final-year mark sheet only Pages to extract: 9-10, 13

What you get

Entering 9-10, 13 creates one new PDF with just those three pages, in that order, while the original 14-page scan stays untouched on the device. The smaller file uploads faster and does not send documents the form never asked for. Had the applicant wanted each document as its own file, the pages-per-file option would split the scan into several PDFs packed in a ZIP instead. Ranges always go smaller number first, so 10-9 would need correcting before splitting.

Common mistakes

  • Writing ranges backwards, such as 10-9, or with spaces and words, instead of the simple form 1-3, 5, 8-10.
  • Guessing page numbers from memory instead of checking the thumbnails, then uploading the wrong certificate.
  • Deleting the original file after splitting, before checking that every page you need made it into the new files.

When to use it: Use split PDF to pull out certain pages or cut a file into parts; to reorder, delete or duplicate pages visually, organize PDF is easier.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Use page numbers separated by commas, with a hyphen for a run of pages: "1-3, 5, 8-10" gives pages 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 9 and 10. "8-" means page 8 to the end. Pages come out in the order you type them.

No. The PDF is opened and split by your browser on this device. Nothing is sent to our servers, which matters for documents like salary slips, Form 16 or offer letters. Refresh or close the tab and the file is gone from the page.

Browsers do not handle dozens of separate downloads well, so all the single-page PDFs are packed into one ZIP. Open it with the built-in extract option on Windows, Mac or your phone's Files app to get each page as its own PDF.

Not directly. Encrypted PDFs cannot be copied page by page. Open the file in a PDF reader, enter the password, then use Print → Save as PDF to make an unlocked copy and split that copy here instead.
