Free PDF to Word Converter

Convert a PDF into an editable Word (.docx) file with headings, paragraphs and bullet points — free, and done entirely in your browser without uploading. PDF to Word conversion works best on text documents such as resumes and letters; tables, images and complex layouts rarely come across exactly.

One PDF, up to 50 MB. Your file never leaves this device.

Conversion happens in your browser. No file is uploaded or stored. Best for text documents like resumes and letters — tables, images and complex layouts are not copied exactly.

How to use PDF to Word Converter: 1. Select the PDF, 2. Set page breaks, 3. Convert to Word, 4. Download and review.

What this PDF to Word converter keeps

The tool reads the text on each page, works out the reading order and rebuilds it as a normal Word document you can edit. It is meant for getting your words back into an editable file quickly, not for copying a design pixel for pixel.

  • Kept: headings (larger text), paragraphs, bold and italic words, bullet and numbered lines, and page breaks.
  • Two-column pages are read left column first, then right, when there is a clear gap between them.
  • Not kept: tables, photos, logos, text boxes, colours, headers and footers in their exact position.
  • Scanned PDFs (a photo of paper) have no text inside, so they need OCR, which this tool does not do.

Tips for editing a resume from PDF

  1. Convert the PDF and open the .docx in Word, Google Docs or WPS Office.
  2. Go through it top to bottom: check that job titles, company names and dates sit together, and that bullet points did not split.
  3. Apply one font and size to the whole document, then re-bold your headings so the layout is consistent.
  4. Update your notice period, current location and skills, then save it again as PDF before uploading to a job portal.

Before you send the new version, run it through the Resume Checker and compare it with a job post using the Resume Job Match. Need only a few pages first? Use Split PDF, or browse all free tools.

Worked example

Editing an old resume that only exists as a PDF

What goes in

File: a two-page resume PDF made from Word a few years ago Content: headings, bullet points, one table of skills Goal: update the latest job and save again

What you get

The tool rebuilds the headings, paragraphs, bold text and bullet points as a .docx, so the experience section can be edited straight away in Word or Google Docs. The skills table is not kept as a table and comes through as plain lines, so the owner retypes it in a few minutes. Because the PDF came from a text document, every word is selectable and converts. Had it been a scan, the tool would report pages with no text, because scanned pages need OCR first.

Common mistakes

  • Expecting a scanned PDF to convert; a scan is a picture of text, so it needs OCR before any words can be edited.
  • Sending the converted file without checking it, when tables, columns and spacing may have shifted during conversion.
  • Converting a password-protected PDF without first unlocking it in a PDF reader, which stops the tool from reading the file.

When to use it: Use PDF to Word when you need to edit text from a PDF; if you only need pages as pictures for sharing, PDF to JPG is simpler.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Those pages are probably scanned images, not real text. A scanned PDF is just a photo of paper, so there is no text to pull out. That needs OCR (text recognition), which this tool does not do. We tell you which pages had no selectable text after converting.

Not exactly. The tool rebuilds headings, paragraphs, bold and italic text, bullet points and page breaks, so the content is easy to edit. Tables, images, text boxes, colours and exact spacing are not kept. It works best for resumes, letters, notices and plain text documents.

Yes, that is one of the best uses. Pick the resume PDF, download the .docx and open it in Word, Google Docs or WPS Office. Check the section order, dates and bullet points, then fix the formatting before you upload the new version to a job portal or send it to HR.

Yes. The PDF is read and the Word file is built by your browser on this device. Nothing is uploaded to our servers or stored, so documents with your CTC, PAN or address stay with you. Password-protected PDFs need to be unlocked in a PDF reader first.
