A retirement letter is part formality and part thank-you. Give your retirement date, confirm the handover period and express gratitude for your years with the organisation. Keep it warm but brief, and write separately to HR about gratuity, provident fund, pension and final settlement, since those need specific details and dates.
Open them in Word or Google Docs, keep the one that fits and fill in your details.
Replace the text in square brackets with your details, and match the notice period in your appointment letter.

At least the notice period mentioned in your appointment letter, though many people inform their manager earlier as a courtesy. Retirement at the fixed superannuation age may follow a separate process, so check your HR policy for any specific timeline or forms.
Both end your employment, but a retirement letter is usually warmer and marks the close of a long career rather than a move to another job. Some companies call it an intimation of retirement. HR may also ask you to fill a separate form.
Timelines depend on your employer, the PF office and whether your documents are complete. There is no fixed date we can promise. Submit forms early, keep your bank and KYC details updated, and ask HR for a written estimate of when each payment is expected.
