What a good cover letter does
A cover letter is not a second resume. Its job is to connect you to one specific role: why this job, why you, and what happens next. Three or four short paragraphs are enough, and the email version can be even shorter.
- Open with the exact role title and where you saw it, so HR can match your application quickly.
- Pick two or three achievements with a number or a clear outcome, and cut the rest.
- Add one line in your own words about why this company — its product, customers or the kind of work it does.
- Close with your availability or notice period and a polite request for a conversation.
Cover letter tips for freshers
Without a job history, lead with what you have done: internships, college projects, certifications, volunteering or a part-time job. Say what you learnt and how it applies to the role. Keep it honest — interviewers will ask about every line.
Make sure the resume you attach matches the letter: add a clear career objective, check it with the resume job match, and borrow wording from our profile summary examples. Before you send it, set up a professional email signature.
