A resume for Canada usually has no photo, runs to 1–2 pages and is printed on US Letter paper. The 8 designs below suit software engineers and open in the free builder with our sample software engineer resume filled in, and the checklist further down shows what to change before you apply in Canada.
A Canadian resume is usually one to two pages, written in reverse-chronological order and focused on measurable achievements. It leaves out a photo, date of birth, marital status and other personal details that provincial and federal human rights laws treat as grounds for discrimination. Most employers expect Canadian spelling, a city and province rather than a full address, and a clean layout that applicant tracking systems can read without trouble.
Each design below opens in the free builder with our sample software engineer resume, Fatima Shaikh, Senior Frontend Engineer, already filled in. The list further down takes that sample section by section and shows what to change before you send it to an employer in Canada.
Why the sample works: Fatima leads with the Next.js migration and its page-speed result, showing seniority through architectural decisions rather than a long list of frameworks. Both resumes include testing work, JUnit for one and Playwright for the other, signalling engineers who protect quality instead of only shipping features.
Indian software engineers moving to Canada usually need to cut a long, project-by-project CV down to two tight pages focused on outcomes, scale and the stack. Remove personal details, replace client and project lists with results, and be careful with the word engineer, which is a protected title in several provinces. Canadian tech recruiters also want to see your work authorization status clearly, because many roles are open only to candidates who can already work in Canada.
Leave it out. Most Canadian employers prefer resumes without a photo. None of the designs below has a photo slot.

Professional summary
“Senior frontend engineer with six years building React and TypeScript applications for SaaS and fintech products. Leads the web platform for a B2B procurement tool, owns its component library and performance budgets, and reviews code for a squad of five.” A Canadian professional summary is three to four lines in a neutral voice without “I”, naming your field, level, two or three strengths and one concrete result.
Core skills
React, TypeScript, Next.js, Redux Toolkit, Web performance, Accessibility (WCAG), Jest and Playwright, Design systems.
Work experience
Senior Frontend Engineer, Series-B B2B procurement SaaS company: “Lead frontend architecture for a React and TypeScript web app used by around 600 enterprise buyers, reviewing work for five engineers. Migrated the app from client-side rendering to Next.js, cutting the largest contentful paint on key pages by about 40 percent.” Earlier: Software Engineer – Frontend, Digital payments company. For work outside Canada, name the country and the scale of the organisation in a few words, since a Canadian hiring manager may not know the employer, and translate job titles to the closest Canadian equivalent.
Education
B.E., Information Technology, University-affiliated engineering college. Education follows experience. If the degree was earned outside Canada and has been assessed as equivalent to a Canadian credential, say so.
Certifications and licences
AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner.
Languages and volunteer work
List English, Hindi, Marathi, Urdu with an honest level such as fluent or professional working proficiency, and treat meaningful volunteer roles like jobs.
