LinkedIn is where academics meet industry partners, funding collaborators, prospective PhD scholars and university recruiters abroad. A professor’s LinkedIn headline should balance designation with research focus in plain language, adding signals such as PhD supervisor, funded projects or accreditation leadership, instead of the long string of degrees usually printed on an academic visiting card.
Sociologist studying tribal livelihoods and migration | Professor | Field research | Monograph author
A string of degrees says nothing about expertise. The rewrite names the post and discipline, a concrete research problem and a collaboration invitation, which industry partners and prospective scholars can act on.

I teach mechanical engineering and research heat transfer, and I’ve done both for 8 years as an associate professor at a private engineering college in Bhubaneswar. My doctoral work was on thermal management in compact heat exchangers. Since then I’ve published 12 papers in Scopus-indexed journals, filed a patent application with colleagues and taken on two PhD scholars. In the classroom I teach heat transfer and CAD, and I try to link every unit to a real design problem that students can model in the lab. I also led our department’s preparation for NBA accreditation, which showed me how much careful course-outcome mapping improves teaching itself. I’m open to research collaborations, industry-sponsored student projects and invitations to speak at faculty development programmes. Please message me here.
I recently completed my PhD in Organic Chemistry and qualified UGC-NET with JRF, which funded my doctoral research on heterocyclic synthesis. For the last 18 months I’ve worked as guest faculty at a government college in Nagpur, teaching undergraduate organic chemistry and supervising practical labs. I enjoy the lab most: showing students why a reaction fails is often more useful than showing one that works. I use Moodle for assignments and short quizzes so students get feedback between classes. My research has produced two papers in Scopus-indexed journals, and I’m preparing a third from the final chapter of my thesis. I’d like to keep a small research group going alongside teaching. I’m looking for assistant professor positions in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh and would welcome a message from departments that are hiring.
Written by the DigitalCVMaker team for professors applying in India. Every example is original — none is copied from a real person’s profile — and each is built around what employers and clients in this field look for: the role, a specialism, and proof you can back up. We revise the page when that changes; the date at the top shows the last update.
These are examples to adapt, not real people. Swap in your own numbers, specialisation, city and achievements — it only works when every word is true for you.

Many do, since it helps with internships, alumni networks and recommendations later. Keep interactions professional, avoid discussing marks or evaluations there, and follow your institution’s social media guidelines. Writing skill endorsements or recommendations for students is a useful way to support placements without blurring academic boundaries.
State in the About section that you supervise doctoral research, mention your recognised supervisor status and research themes, and explain how applicants should approach you, such as through the university’s PhD entrance. Posting calls for project fellows or JRF positions on funded projects attracts relevant, motivated applicants.
